The aim of the workshop is to provide the opportunity to present recent progress and obtain information about new directions for leading researchers working on mathematical aspects of fluids and plasmas in a broad sense. In particular, the relation between kinetic and fluid models in various applications such as gas dynamics, semiconductors, granular flows will be one of the main subjects.
|
Theory and application of the following subjects will be included in the scope of the workshop:
- the Boltzmann equation and related kinetic equations
- the Vlasov-Poisson system and related equations
- the Navier-Stokes and Euler equations
- kinetic and fluid models for various flow phenomena (e.g., rarefied gas flows,
granular flows, semiconductors, and traffic flows)
- quantum and relativistic kinetic systems
- asymptotic and numerical methods
Participation in this workshop is only by invitation. The program will consist of 12 main (45-minute) lectures and 60 to 70 invited (30-minute) lectures. Please note that the workshop will start in the morning on September 19 (Sunday).

The registration fee, which helps the basic cost of organization, is 15,000 JPY (Japanese Yen) for a regular participant and 10,000 JPY for an accompanying person. The fee is payable by credit card (only visa and master cards are accepted). Payment by credit card can be made by filling out the
Payment Form (click
here) and faxing it to the number
+81-75-753-4942 (direct to the office of  K. Aoki).
The payment can also be made at the time of registration in the site of the 6th MAFPD in the morning on September 19 (only the payment by cash is accepted). However, the participants are encouraged to pay by credit card before August 1, 2004.
All the speakers are asked to send a one-page abstract of their
lecture by e-mail to
before May 1, 2004.
Full-length refereed papers based on presentations at
the 6th MAFPD will be published as regular archival
articles in a special issue of the journal
Transport Theory and Statistical Physics,
after the normal refereeing process for the journal.
Of course, special review papers will not be required
to contain original research results, but rather an
appropriate overview of the subject. There is no page
limit -- other than that the length should be appropriate
for the material contained in the paper.
The papers are to be sent to K. Aoki (Coordinating
Guest Co-Editor), at the address indicated at the end
of this web site, by November 30, 2004. They should
not be sent directly to the journal editor or directly
to the journal publisher.

TTSP MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS

|
The typing area should be no more than 5.5 inches
wide by 7 inches deep (14.0 cm x 17.8 cm) for the article
opening page. All other pages should be no more than 5.5
inches wide by 8.5 inches deep (14.0 cm x 21.6 cm).
In general, the title and the abstract, as well as
the tables and references, are typed single-spaced. All
other text discussion should be typed 1.5-line spaced,
if available, or double-spaced if 1.5-line spacing is not
available. A 12-point font should be used, and Times New
Roman is recommended.

The registered participants are invited to attend a banquet and an excursion held during the workshop.
A number of rooms are reserved in Kyoto Royal Hotel, which is a high-standard hotel located in the central and shopping district of the city, and COOP INN Kyoto, which is an economical hotel also located in the center. There is a frequent service of the city bus between the center and the campus: a 15-minute ride from Kyoto Royal Hotel and a 20-minute ride (plus 10-minute walk) from COOP INN Kyoto. For information and reservation, please click
here. The reservations should be made no later than
August 1, 2004 because hotels are crowded in Kyoto.
